Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has commissioned the Emohua-Kalabari road constructed by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc.

Contract for the 15.24-kilometre road was awarded on February 18, 2023, at a cost of N21.26 billion by the previous administration in the state, which paid only 28 per cent of the sum. This amounted to N6 billion.

Commenting, Fubara extolled Julius Berger for its commitment to the development of infrastructure in the state. He said his administration paid the remaining N15.2 billion and completed 70 per cent of the job to confidently claim it as part of his projects delivered for the benefit of people in Kalabari land.

Permanent Secretary of Rivers State Ministry of Works, Atemea Briggs, said other features of the road, which is a major access route into Kalabari land, include its width (5.3m); asphalt thickness (100mm), made up of 60mm concrete asphaltic binder course and 40mm asphaltic wearing course; a median divide of 600mm; and installed street light, completed and fully paid for.

Vice Chairman of Asari-Toru Local Council, Mrs Tekena Daphne Wokoma, recalled that the road, which was properly constructed with bridges, first, in the 1990s, eventually collapsed a few years after.

On his part, the Deputy Regional Manager of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Mr Rimon Marisho, said the company was happy to have contributed significantly to the development of infrastructure in the region.

He expressed gratitude to Fubara for the opportunity and the trust reposed in the construction company.
