Experts harp on bridging regulatory gaps

Stakeholders have emphasised the need to bridge the regulatory gaps faced by Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), especially female-owned ones.

The call was made at the International Women’s Day (IWD) event, organised by Shecluded in partnership with African Women Power Network (AWP), in Lagos.

Head of Partnerships, Tharabi Corporate Solutions, Adaugo Dubem-Udeogu, said such gaps limit business growth while explaining the challenges women face in launching, operating and scaling their businesses.

“On the level of launching a business, there is the issue of access to information. There is no particular place for people who want to start a business to access all needed information effectively. Most people are not aware of the category to register their business, whether it is licensed to be registered as a business name or LLC, tax or annual returns of the business,” she said.

According to her, as a solution, Tharabi has created a simplified system where all their business regulatory issues are in a platform and can be easily sorted.

Participants also learned how to structure their businesses for the global market. Founder, AWP, Mary Olushoga, stressed the need to move from inaction to action when it comes to helping women grow. She said that self-limiting belief was a major challenge women face while urging them to reach out for support, gain access to the right resources and build confidence.
