With the increase in value for personal development, motivational experts have said self-awareness and mindset are crucial to achieving individual growth.

They stressed that understanding oneself and cultivating a positive mindset were foundational pillars for success in various aspects of life.

The experts spoke in Lagos at a one-day seminar, titled: ‘Recode’, with the theme: ‘Reinventing yourself for a wholesome life’ at the weekend.

They charged youths to reinvent themselves for future opportunities by shaping their minds for productivity and growth.

Founder of Live Your Dreams Africa and host, Bankole Williams, described Recode as an initiative aimed at empowering individuals, particularly young people, to acknowledge the changing world and to adapt by acquiring essential skills.

He emphasised that developing the skills would not only bring stability to one’s personal life but also impact, positively, the external world.
“Youths have to be resilient, be tough, take on difficulty but also be able to rise above difficulty, must have self-regulation, with everything that is happening in the outer world,” he said.

One of the facilitators, Dr Tochukwu MacFoy, expressed concern that many youths were operating with cognitive capacities below their potential, attributing this tolack of belief, consciousness, imagination, and unresolved trauma, which, he believed, had negatively impacted the youth.

“This is a conversation, where we recalibrate our minds and bring it back to proper consciousness.

“Youths are the ones to change the country, the state, the outlook. So, if you can change how they think, you can change the country,” he said.

A lawyer at Pathfinders Justice Initiative, Rantiade Benson-Idahosa, urged young people to grasp their identity and true selves, saying: “If we can all get to that space of collective consciousness, there will be a huge difference in the world.”
