Experts task youths on good values

Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, Institute of Directors Nigeria (IoD Nigeria), Bamidele Alimi, has urged young Nigerians to imbibe good values and explore more opportunities that could shape their world.

He advised them during a prize-giving ceremony to winners of this year’s SystemSpec Children’s Day competition in Lagos.
He encouraged them to believe in their capabilities, stating that their unique perspectives could shape the world in profound ways.

He also urged them to shun internet fraud, hooliganism, examination malpractice, alcoholism and drug abuse.
Group Head, Corporate Services, SystemSpecs, Oluwasegun Adesanya, said the competition, which is in its 4th edition, aims to make young Nigerians explore their creative ability.

He said the company’s yearly programme was one of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, aimed at developing indigenous technology capacity.

Adesanya said: “We are amazed by the quality of essays we received from participants. The entries proffered proven technology solutions that can groom children to be better citizens. We have identified the outstanding submissions and will ensure that the relevant stakeholders required to bring these ideas into fruition are carried along.”

He said the three winners from junior and senior categories were selected based on their creativity in writing on the topic ‘Making Nigerian children better citizens through the use of technology.’

Onile Ayoade of Eternal Excellency College, Oyo State was third runner up; Ifelaja Elliot of Masterhills School, Ogun State was second runner up and Uwakwe Chikanyima of Sacred Heart Seminary, Rivers State was the overall winner for the junior category.

For the senior category, Dioha Magaret of Grundtvig International Secondary School, Anambra State; Madu-Nwaigwe Henry of White of Pearl International School, FCT-Abuja was third runner-up second runner up respectively, while Afolabi Joanne of Bishop Howells Memorial Grammar School was the winner.

In addition, Lagos State emerged as the winning state with the highest number of public schools in the top 100, registering 21 public schools that came tops in the competition.

Winners from each category were offered a laptop, laptop table, topnotch headphone, smart wristwatch, 120 gigabytes of internet data for a year, a unique keepsake hoodie, a school bag and more.

The second and third-place winners from each category received a laptop, 60 gigabytes of internet data for one year, branded hoodie, thermal flask, school bag and more.
