The diasporan King of the Igbo community in Ghana, His Royal Majesty Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu, has commended Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, for his timely intervention in the rescue of 10 underaged Nigerian victims of human trafficking, eight of who came from the Orlu part of the state.

The monarch, who received the Imo State government delegation on arrival in Ghana, described the governor as the father of “modern democracy in Imo State and a leader with functional conscience.”

The governor, through a delegation led by the Deputy Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Amara Chyna Iwuanyanwu, and Imo Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development,
Mrs. Nkechi Ugwu, successfully rescued the underaged girls who were victims of human trafficking in Ghana, after a series of meetings with the Ghanaian Police.

Other notable personalities that assisted in the rescue include: Acting Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, Amb. Adeoye Ifedayo, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Nigerians In Diaspora Organisation (NIDO- Ghana), Chief Calistus Elozieuwa, and Mrs. Abike Dabiri -Erewa, Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM).

Ezeigbo Ghana, while addressing the media, urged Ndigbo and Nigerians travelling to Ghana and other parts of the world to desist from illicit activities that would paint the country in a bad light.

He, however, advised that those who wish to travel out of the country for greener pastures should endeavour to have proper documentations to avoid unpleasant consequences that would keep them stranded, even as he condemned in strong terms human trafficking.

Commending the governor for his impressive outing in the areas of infrastructural development, road construction, human capacity building, peace, Ezeigbo Ghana urged parents to monitor the whereabouts of their children, and encouraged collaborative efforts to ensure traffickers are identified and prosecuted.

Ihenetu also advised the youths to avoid shortcut to success but rather trust the process by availing themselves of opportunities by attending series of ICT skill-up acquisition programmes of the state government and related capacity building initiatives.
