The Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Olubunmi Kuku, has established a task force to eliminate touting, extortion and illicit activities at airports.
According to the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Kuku said in an interview with newsmen in Lagos that the action follows numerous reports of passenger harassment and extortion at airports.
Kuku reiterated her commitment to creating a seamless and pleasant experience for travellers, stressing that her administration has launched an extensive campaign to crack down on these illegal activities.
She also announced plans to establish magistrate courts at international airports to expedite the legal process for prosecuting offenders.
The Director of Special Duties at FAAN, Henry Agbebire, will lead this initiative as the task force chairman.
Kuku expressed her intention to engage directly with all government entities operating at the airports to ensure compliance with anti-touting and anti-extortion policies.
Kuku warned all airport personnel and FAAN staff that the era of business as usual is over, noting that strict disciplinary actions would be taken against anyone engaging in illicit practices, adding that the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration has a zero-tolerance policy towards misconduct.
