SUPER Falcons’ coach, Edwin Okon, has called on those urging the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to get a foreign coach for the Super Falcons to desist from meddling in the affairs of the team, saying that such move could jeopardise the team’s preparations for the All Africa Games and Canada 2015 Women World Cup.
Okon noted that the team’s ability to beat Mali 8-0 in the All Africa Games qualifier after pulling a draw in Bamako was a sign that the girls were would improve with every game they play.
The Rivers Angels coach, who led the women national team to win the African Women Championship in Namibia last year, said he had the wherewithal to handle the team without assistance from any quarters.
He disagreed with those saying his team scored many goals against Mali because they were weak opposition, saying there were no longer weak teams in African women football and other parts of the world.
Okon disclosed that the NFF was making necessary contacts to organize quality friendlies for the team, adding, “the federation has not discovered any lapses in my team. I have not also told anybody that I need technical assistance.
“Those putting this information across are detractors who will not succeed. I am working hard to ensure the Falcons excel at the All African Games and the World Cup.
“If the team got the best of preparations, they would fly high in every championship they compete. The girls also need encouragement and support from everybody to give their best.”
