Faleke, others optimistic of smooth inauguration for President-elect

James Faleke

Less than 22 days to the May 29 swearing-in-day of the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the lawmaker representing Ikeja Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, James Faleke, has said the transition from President Muhammadu Buhari to former Governor of Lagos State, would be smooth.

In the same vein, a member of Lagos Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), Bashorun Olorunfunmi, also urged Nigerians to brace up for Tinubu’s inauguration ceremony, whom he said has all it takes in terms of experience, political will, and capacity to transform the country from its present parlous state to the best where its citizens would realise their political, economic and social potentials.

Since Tinubu was declared winner of the February 25, 2023, presidential poll, some Nigerians have camped at the Unity Fountain, Abuja, clamouring for a smooth, uninhibited transition.

The Convener of the camp, Tosin Adeyanju said: “This is our own way of countering calls by some opposition figures for either interim government or a military takeover because of their allegations that the presidential election was deeply flawed.

“We are vehemently opposed to any suggestion to scuttle an orderly transition to the newly elected president. This is a dangerous misdirection to scuttle our entire democracy.”

On day 34 of the camp, Faleke, who also served as secretary to the defunct All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council (APC PCC), while on a solidarity visit to the Unity Fountain, commended the resilience and dedication of the rallying group to the cause of democracy, peace and justice in Nigeria.

Responding, Adeyanju said that the pre-inauguration hangouts would continue until after May 29th. “This is aimed to prevent anti-democratic forces from polluting the nation’s atmosphere with their evil agenda.”

Son of the President-elect, Seyi, who also paid a solidarity visit to the Unity Fountain, said his father would initiate policies that will address poverty, insecurity, and youth unemployment faster than what Nigerians imagined or expected.

Also, a former lawmaker, who represented Epe Federal Constituency, Lagos, Lanre Odubote, in a telephone chat with The Guardian, said that Nigerians should rally around Tinubu’s administration to build the country.
