Adamawa govt inaugurates committee to recruit 5,000 teachers

The Adamawa State Government has inaugurated a high-powered committee to oversee the recruitment of 5,000 teachers across the state in a bid to strengthen the education sector.

The inauguration ceremony, held at the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development Conference Hall, was presided over by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Umar Garba Pella.

The committee comprises representatives from key government institutions, including the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Post Primary Schools Management Board (PPSMB), State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Civil Service Commission, and the Office of the Head of Service, among others.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Aisha Abubakar Umar, will serve as chairperson of the committee, while the Acting Executive Secretary of PPSMB, Mr. Birsan Penuel, will act as co-chair.

Pella disclosed that the committee has been given a strict two-week deadline to screen and select 5,000 qualified candidates from a pool of 18,000 applicants.

He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to fairness, accountability, and transparency throughout the recruitment process.

“We were elected to serve the people, and we are determined to ensure that they are truly served. This government enjoys a high level of trust from the electorate, and we are committed to sustaining that trust,” the commissioner said.

He warned committee members against any form of malpractice or personal interest, urging them to uphold integrity and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

The recruitment exercise, according to the government, is part of a broader effort to improve the quality of education and address manpower shortages in public schools across the state.
