Glo Foundation: Female students mark girl-child day

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to prioritising quality education for the girl-child as a key driver of national development.
Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Sai’d Ahmed, gave the assurance yesterday, in Abuja, during the 2025 International Day of the Girl-Child celebration.

The event was organised by the Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Adolescent Girls’ Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project and other key stakeholders.

Ahmed, who was represented at the event by the Director for Senior Secondary Education Department, Binta Abulkadir, said the ministry had started implementing the National Policy on Gender in Basic Education, which aims at eliminating gender disparities in access, education and competition for children.

Also speaking, the National Coordinator, AGILE Project, Amina Haruna, said the objective of this year’s celebration aims to inspire global action, investment and support for girls’ empowerment, among others.

Meanwhile, Globacom, through its social investment vehicle, Glo Foundation, has hosted hundreds of girls from various secondary schools across the country to a symbolic walk and movie outing as part of activities mapped out to celebrate this year’s International Day of the Girl-Child.

One hundred girls, selected from five secondary schools across Lagos State, were received at the corporate head office of Globacom, Mike Adenuga Towers, Victoria Island, where they received encouraging words from senior female executives of Globacom.

The session was held to encourage the girls to aim for the top in whatever field of endeavour they opt for academically and to strive for excellence and success in any sphere of work or business within their environment.

The students were received by Globacom’s Director, Strategy and Board Affairs, Mojisola Ashieru Sweet, who admonished the girls to be proud of who they are and be confident that success will come when they strive for it.

Also, Globacom’s Head of Human Resources, Jumoke Aduwo, equally echoed this further by advising the girls to focus on developing a strong character.
