WAEC says no going back on CBT exams

Head of Nigeria National Office of the West African Examination Council (WAEC), Dr Amos Dangut, yesterday, stated that the agency’s planned upgrade to computer-based examination has come to stay.

Speaking at a sensitisation rally in Lagos, Dangut said the examination body is going digital, despite its age.

“We are 73 years old, and we cannot pretend to be one year, or five years or 10 years. We will continue to take the lead,” he said.  While speaking on the fate of those who live in rural areas without electricity or internet connection, the WAEC chief explained that all candidates who register for the 2026 examination would write the test, irrespective of location.

Also speaking the Deputy Director of Finance and Expenditure, Mrs S.O. Malik, assured stakeholders that WAEC has the capacity to conduct CBT examinations in remote areas.
