To build safer roads and empower young Nigerians, a non-profit organisation, GreenLight Initiative, in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has inaugurated 12 road safety clubs in selected schools across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Lagos, and Rivers State.
This initiative stemmed from the commitment made by the Corps Marshal of FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, during the National Finals of the 2025 VIA Programme for Safe Mobility held in Lagos.
In his remarks, the Corps Marshal promised to work with GreenLight Initiative to establish road safety clubs in 19 of the 30 participating schools that previously had none, a move aimed at sustaining the impact of the VIA Programme and strengthening road safety education among young people.
A statement by the group said that the primary goal of these road safety clubs was to nurture a generation of road safety–conscious young individuals who would become advocates for promoting road traffic safety awareness within their schools and communities.
By doing so, these clubs would help create a ripple effect that enhances safety across communities. Through the VIA Programme, over 600 students from 30 public secondary schools participated in classroom learning, risk mapping, and creative sessions promoting safer mobility for young people.
The newly inaugurated road safety clubs would serve as lasting platforms for these students to champion safety awareness, lead peer education activities, and engage their school communities in promoting responsible road use.
During the inauguration events, FRSC representatives commended the enthusiasm of participating schools and reaffirmed the corps’ dedication to continuous safety education among youth.
