NASFAT to tackle impediments of women, girl child economic empowerment
Burdened by poverty, discrimination, and mental health among women, Nassrul-al-Fatih Society’s (NASFAT) women’s wing is set to address the multifaceted challenges bedevilling Muslim women’s path to empowerment.
The 2024 NASFAT 2024, yearly Women’s Week celebration, the 25th edition, would commence on November 10, 2024, to 17, featuring empowerment, visitations, fundraising, networking, Quran recitation, quiz competition and funfair among others.
Speaking at the press conference heralding the week-long activities of the women’s week, NASFAT Women Affairs’ Secretary, Alhaja Ganiyat Babalola, said the Women’s Week is an initiative of the Women Management Committee, which brings NASFAT women together from across zones, branches, groups and diaspora to celebrate, discuss and enlighten ourselves on matters related to women empowerment, Islamic values and community engagement.
According to her, the theme ‘Harnessing the potentials of Muslim women as catalysts for societal safety and economic development’, resonates with the current situation of things in the country.
“The theme reflects the vital role Muslim women can play in shaping the safety, stability, and prosperity of our nation. The discussions and sessions are following the theme. It is well packaged to benefit our women, for them to be more productive, knowledgeable and positively influence the society.”
She noted that not less than 3,000 NASFAT Women from across the globe shall be joining this year’s edition of the women’s week both physically and virtually.
“The programme is packaged such that, no one is left behind, from the children, youth and the elderly. Our men folks will also benefit from some of the training planned for the weeklong activities.”
Chairperson Planning Committee, Alhaja Nurat Jolaosho, said the Women’s Week will commence on November 10, 2024, with a special Prayer, followed by Women Connect, charity, visitation, empowerment, celebration of elderly widows, fundraising on November 16 at Blue Roof, LTV 8.
She added that NASFAT women will begin an initiative tagged, ‘Orphans and out of school girls care initiative’ which will give hope to the less privileged and orphan girls in society.
“ We have started a pilot test with some girls that have been put in vocational institutions fully funded. Our target is to have a transit home for female victims of Gender-based violence (GBV). In addition to this, we are going to empower some women at the bottom of the ladder with interest-free loans specifically for trading and working capital enhancement. This will be in collaboration with The Alternative Bank Micro credit scheme for women,” she said.
