Zamfara reiterates commitment to domestication, Implementation of WEE policy

Zamfara State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the domestication and implementation of the Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) Policy within the state.

This was disclosed by the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Aisha M.Z. Anka, while receiving the Executive Director of the Women Environmental Programme (WEP), Anne Mary Abagu, and her team on a courtesy visit to her office.

Dr. Anka emphasised that the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal has transformed several sectors of human development, with a core focus on improving livelihoods, particularly for women and vulnerable groups across the state.

“The present administration is committed to creating opportunities and easing the lives of our citizens, especially women and marginalised groups. We welcome collaboration with independent donor agencies and development organisations that aim to bring positive change to Zamfara,” she said.

Dr. Anka further assured the visitor of the Ministry’s full dedication to the successful domestication, printing, and official launching of the WEE policy.

“Let me assure you that this ministry, under my leadership, is fully committed to providing an enabling environment for the successful rollout of the Women’s Economic Empowerment Policy in Zamfara State,” she said.

The commissioner also highlighted the ministry’s willingness to partner with organisations such as WEP to harness technical expertise and funding support to uplift women and vulnerable populations.

“Our key request today is for continued partnership and support from WEP to help us finalise and implement the WEE policy across the state through joint advocacy, technical assistance, and grassroots engagement to advance women’s economic development”

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Barrister Suwaiba Ibrahim Barau, expressed deep appreciation to Governor Lawal for his continued support in enhancing the well-being of women in the State.

She noted that the administration of Lawal has demonstrated a strong commitment to ensuring that women are fully integrated into the state’s economic development efforts.

In her remarks, the Executive Director of WEP, Anne Mary Abagu, commended the commissioner and her staff for their warm reception and unwavering dedication to empowering women and girls in Zamfara.

“We are here today to explore strategies to empower women and girls in Zamfara State through the framework of the Women’s Economic Empowerment Policy”, she added.

Ms. Abagu commended the proactive steps taken by the Zamfara State Government in domesticating the national WEE policy and reiterated WEP’s commitment to supporting its implementation.

“Women Environmental Programme is proud to contribute to the realisation of this important policy in Zamfara through our ‘Women Power 2030 – Accelerated Action for the Sustainable Development Goals’ initiative,” she concluded.
