The Chief Medical Director of the FUTA Teaching Hospital, Akure, Professor Olusegun Ojo, has announced the appointment of Dr. Emmanuel Olaseinde Bello as the hospital’s first Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC).
CMAC serves as the administrative head of the Directorate of Clinical Services, which is one of the three directorates that constitute the administrative structure of Federal Teaching Hospitals in the country.
Speaking on the appointment, Ojo described Bello as an accomplished medical researcher with several academic publications in reputable Nigerian and international journals, as well as an experienced teacher and trainer of medical students and resident doctors.
He stated that Bello, an experienced Consultant Paediatrician and Neonatologist, had his undergraduate medical education at the College of Health Sciences, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, before proceeding to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife, for his Residency Training, after which he became a Fellow of the West African College of Physicians in Paediatrics.
According to him, Bello was first appointed a Consultant Paediatrician at the former State Specialist Hospital, Akure, in 2015 and later became one of the foundation staff members of the UNIMED Teaching Hospital, Akure, following its incorporation into the UNIMED Teaching Hospitals Complex. He further noted that Bello also served as Head of the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health at the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, where he remains a Senior Lecturer.
The CMD recalled that Bello had contributed to the hospital and university system by serving on several statutory and ad hoc committees, including chairing the Infection Prevention and Control Team and participating in the Hospital/Community Liaison Committee.
Ojo congratulated Bello on his appointment, expressing confidence that his expertise and experience would strengthen clinical services and the overall development of the hospital.
