LASUTH graduates first anaesthetic technologists
To address the critical demand for skilled anaesthetic technicians in the country, the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) has graduated the first cohort of students from its School of Anaesthetic Technology.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony of 31 students, LASUTH Chief Medical Director, Prof Adetokunbo Fabamwo, commended the graduates for their dedication and excellence throughout the rigorous training.
He reflected on the school’s inception, inspired by a similar initiative at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), noting that the management of LASUTH recognised the hospital had the resources to establish a school of such repute independently and took the bold step.
Fabamwo acknowledged the efforts of the hospital’s top management committee in driving the establishment of the school and shared progress on plans to include Anaesthetic Technology as a recognised cadre in Lagos State’s Scheme of Service. He expressed pride in the graduates for their excellent performance during their training, encouraging them to contribute meaningfully to the healthcare sector.
He emphasised the limitless career opportunities for Anaesthetic Technicians across the country, adding “This is one field where there is no fear of unemployment.”
The Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Health, Dr Olusegun Ogboye, represented by the Director of Medical Services, Mr Tunde Oyefile, congratulated the graduates and commended their dedication and perseverance throughout the training programme. He wished them great success in their careers and urged them to uphold excellence as they contribute to the advancement of Lagos State’s healthcare system.
The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Health, Dr Kemi Ogunyemi, represented by the Senior Special Assistant, Mrs Sarah Balogun, advised the graduates to resist the “japa syndrome” and serve the country.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Health, Dr Oluwatoni Adeyemi, welcomed the graduates into the “One Health Family in Lagos State,” highlighting the critical role of anaesthetic technicians in bridging the gap between patients and surgical teams, encouraging them to pursue professional growth.
Head of the School of Anaesthetic Technology, Dr Titilayo Awodesu, was praised for her tireless efforts in ensuring the success of the programme.
The National Board of Technical Education Coordinator, Dr. John Oyebuchi, applauded LASUTH management for its vision and urged the graduates to maintain excellence not only in technical skills but also in their professional attitudes.
