Daily Times unveils centenary anniversary, launches The Nigerian Book

In commemoration of its 100 years of existence, the publisher and founder, Folio Media Group, Fidelis Anosike, has disclosed they are unveiling a 700-page book, titled, ‘The Nigeria Book’

Addressing journalists in Lagos, Anosike described the book as national archive and intellectual asset that seeks to redefine the nation’s narrative.

To him, “this is not just a publication; it is a nation-building project. The ‘Nigeria Book’ is a 700-page compendium of Nigeria’s identity, struggle, triumphs and potential. It captures who we are, our people, our cultures, our values and our collective quest to define our place in the world. Book is a data point. We felt we should create a book that will be a national souvenir. Daily Times can tell the story from institutional perspectives because they have the archive. We are working with relevant organisation, particularly Nigerians in Diasporas Commission NIDCOM. We feel the Nigerian story must be told by us properly based on pedigree and logical process. We have been working on the book for the past ten years.

“We want to tell the Nigerian story as it is through the lens of a platform that has been present at every milestone of our national development. Daily Times has always been more than a newspaper. It is a national legacy and a custodian of Nigeria’s memory,” Anosike stated.

Anosike recounted the journey of Daily Times, which was acquired by Folio Communications in 2004.

He added, “we are here today because we are trying to start the sensitisation of the making of the Daily Times at 100. Daily Times will be 100 in June, 2026. So it’s going to be a hundred years ago that Daily Times was created.

“So over the past 20 years, we fully acquired Daily Times with its assets. So for us, what we have done post acquisition is to stabilise the brand, revive the legacy and keep it going. One of the major things that we want to do is that we have to go back to why Daily Times was created for. It was created for nation building. It was at the forefront of fighting for the independence of Nigeria.

So the daily times was founded in 1926. Amalgamation happened in 1914. We got independence in 1960. So what it means is that Daily Times was part of creating that Nigeria.”

In conclusion, he said, “we are also building a platform that will take us to century two. In century two he said the brand would be digital’

He added they are also investing in capacity building for journalists.
