No fewer than 205 farmers cultivating maize, tomato, and cassava in Olorunsogo, Oorelope and Saki East Local Councils of Oyo State, have received farm inputs from the state government through the OYS-CARES, in conjunction with the World Bank, under the state Agribusiness Development Agency (OYSADA).
Briefing journalists, shortly after the distribution of the inputs to the beneficiaries in Igbeti, the headquarters of Olorunsogo local council, the state coordinator for Nigeria COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (N-CARES) Result Area 2, Mr. Kolawole Bamigbola, said 50 tomato farmers received 20 sachets of tomato seeds, one and a half bags of fertilisers, one litre of pre-emergence and one litre of post-emergence herbicides each.
Kolawole also noted that 50 maize farmers of five groupsalso received inputs to enhance their farm produce. He said, “Each farmer collected 10kg of maize, two bags of NPK fertiliser, one litre of pre-emergence herbicides and one post-emergence herbicide.”
“70 farmers received agricultural inputs – each of the farmers received 20 bundles of cassava cuttings, two bags of NPK fertiliser, and one litre of herbicide,” he said.
In Igboho, 70 farmers that specialised in cassava planting also received their inputs.
The state N-CARES coordinator said, “Seven groups of cassava farmers with 70 beneficiaries also received 20 bundles of cassava cuttings each, with two bags of NPK fertilisers and one liter of herbicide.”
In Ago-Amodu, the secretariat of Saki East, 65 farmers comprising 39 cassava farmers and 26 tomato farmers received their inputs.
Each of the 39 cassava farmers received 20 bundles of cassava cuttings, two bags of NPK fertiliser and one bag of herbicide, while each of the 26 tomato farmers received 20 sachets of tomato seeds, one pre-emergence herbicide, one post-emergence herbicide and two bags of fertilisers.
In her remark, the chairman of Olorunsogo Local Council, Mrs. Akani Juliana Oluwakemi lauded Governor Seyi Makinde for the support, describing him as ‘talk and do’ governor.
She also urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the inputs given to them.
