Female guber aspirant vows to rescue Cross River from bad governance

Former Nigeria’s ambassador to the African Union, Nkoyo Toyo, has disclosed that her ambition to run for the office of the Governor of Cross River State was inspired by the desire to rescue the state from bad governance.

Toyo, who declared under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was a member of the House of Representatives.

The ambassador, in an interview with some newsmen, said she was aspiring to make a huge impact in the state as the first female governor in Nigeria.

She said she had consulted widely and the overwhelming calls from not only the female folks in the state but in the country had encouraged her to launch out.

According to her, the state needs a capable hand with substantial knowledge, experience on problems of the country, issues of governance and administration, is needed to rescue, recover and re-set her for greatness.


“A woman has never come up as governor of Cross River State. The time is now, and I am determined to make a huge, remarkable mark.

“What’s important at this time is that it is a time of healing the state and nation; a time of coming together. These are skills which women are noted for. And I have a good dose of such skills.

“I want to rebuild the institutions that have been mismanaged over the years; it is a time of reconstruction.  This is why I am coming out on the bases of Recovery of the state, Re-Set and finally Re-Position her,” she assured.
