‘FG dismisses graft allegation against minister’

Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye

Federal Government has dismissed the allegation making the rounds that Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, was being investigated by the House of Representatives Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development for financial misappropriation.

The denial was contained in a statement issued by her media aide, Musa Abdulrahman, yesterday in Abuja.

The statement noted that the claim by chairman of the committee, Kafilat Ogbara, was not only false, but also misleading and an attempt to “discredit the unrelenting efforts of the minister in empowering Nigerian women.”

The statement reads:”Our attention has been drawn to a circulating report of a programme hosted by Arise TV where Honourable Kafilat Ogbara, Chairman, House of Representatives committee on Women Affairs and Social Development was making an allegation that the Minister of Women Affairs, Barr Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, has been petitioned and invited by the committee over an alleged misappropriation of funds in the ministry.

“We wish to make it categorically clear that this statement, being made by Hon Kafilat Ogbara, is not only false but misleading and an attempt to discredit the unrelenting Honorable Minister of Women Affairs, who has within her 10  months in office, made a significant impact on the lives of women and children across the nation.”

The current administration insisted that “it is on record that the Committee on Women Affairs has in no period communicated to the ministry, inviting the minister for any explanation whosoever regarding the alleged petition or misconducts in office.

“Contrary to the false report, we make bold to say that the Honorable Minister of Women Affairs is a woman of integrity, patriotism and moral excellence, who operates an open door policy and is accessible to all.

“This is in pursuit of her commitment to uphold the culture of transparency and accountability which the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is known for.”

The statement concluded by urging the Ogbara-led committee not to be distracted by naysayers and joined the minister in delivering the dividends of democracy to Nigerians in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu.
