FG distributes food items, materials to 7,500 displaced persons

National Commission for Refugees, Migrant and Internally Displaced Person has said 2.6 million persons are presently displaced persons in Nigeria.

Federal Commissioner of the Commission Bashir Mohammad Garba disclosed this on Monday while flagging off the distribution of food items and materials to 7,500 persons affected by natural disasters at Kano Government House.

Garba who submitted that those displaced from their ancestral home were victims of insurgency attack from the North East and natural disasters in many states in the southern part of the country.

Garba noted that the Federal government has concluded a place to resettle the displaced persons in line with the mandate of the commission.

He said the commission has a plan to build 600 housing scheme for the Internally Displaced Persons IDPs in Kano.


The commissioner posited that the Federal government in partnership with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to flout resettlement housing and project reliance to relocate the affected persons across the country.

He explained that the commission is establishing 50 different vocational skills to train the displaced persons and fund would be provided to establish the beneficiaries after training.

While inaugurating the disbursement of the items, Governor Abdullah Umar Ganduje said 47,616 persons were affected by various forms of natural disasters in Kano.

Ganduje who applauded the supports of the Federal government on food and non-food items distribution to IDPs in Kano pledged a donation of 20 hectares of land to the refugees’ commission for the construction of the housing scheme.
