The Federal Government has planned to collaborate with the Ekiti State Government to build 1,000 housing units to address housing deficit in the state.

Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Oyetunde Ojo, dropped the hint yesterday, when he led other management team of the Authority to the state on a courtesy visit to Governor Biodun Oyebanji.

Ojo said that the FHA is planning to build 1,000 different categories of houses in the state, which would include the “studios type, one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom units, respectively.

According to him, the FHA would use a different approach in reducing the housing deficit under the current leadership in the country that would take care of the culture, affordability and sociology of the people.

“There will be a different approach. We will consult as you don’t force something on the people. You need to consult on what they want. When you consult with stakeholders and governors, they will tell you the models and approach that will work in their states.

“We will not impose our ideas on the people but ask them what type of houses they need for their own good.” Oyebanji, while receiving the management team of the FHA in his office, said the state would give full support to the project to succeed.

“As a government, we promise the full support of the government and the people of Ekiti State for the success of this project. “We believe in the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu. We believe in his promise to make mass housing affordable to the people,” he said.

The governor, who noted that the reason why most housing projects failed in the country was because they were imposed on the people, added: “But now, they are consulting with stakeholders in designing the structures and once they take ownership, they will take it up.

“We are going to work together with them (FHA) to ensure that they deliver on their mandate to the people.”Oyebanji, who congratulated Ojo for his appointment, and described him as fit and the proper person to head the agency, also congratulated other members that have come to the state.
