The Federal Government has concluded arrangements to collaborate with the Indian government on geospatial mapping, technical expertise exchange, remote sensing, carbon mapping, and auto imagery.

Surveyor-General of the Federation, AbuduganiyuAdebomehin, said this when receiving the Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Shri Balasubramanian in his office in Abuja.

Adebomehin said the Indian government has established its geospatial data infrastructure, Nigeria can take advantage of its satellite to capture the carbon underground so that we can be sure of what they have.

He explained that the country is still trying to establish its own, saying, with the partnership in the geospatial area and leveraging on India’s strength, using the joint mapping and their imagery in the area of Agriculture, and others.

“Another area of the proposal will be to see how India’s geospatial data can be applied in the area of food production and security, and equally benefit from its technical expertise training as human capacity development is key,” he said.

He promised that the collaboration would be pursued with all vigour to see how it could be beneficial to both countries, and especially on the new geospatial policy inaugurated by Indians by reaching out to major countries.

Earlier, Balasubramanian stated that the visit was to highlight India’s strength in remote sensing and space capabilities due to the satellite coverage of the country for geographical mapping.

He also added that hydrography, remote sensing, surveying training, and technical expertise exchange are key areas in which both countries can work together to make use of Artificial Intelligence.

According to him, signing a Memorandum of Understanding with Nigeria will enable both countries to harmonise data sets, adding that India is ready for partnership and cooperation.
