FG tasks development partners on women training

The Federal Government has urged development partners, civil society groups and stakeholders in the gender sector to ensure that training provided to women and girls is complemented with essential tools, empowering them to apply their skills effectively.

The minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye said this in a remark in Abuja at a multi-sectoral engagement meeting to advance the rights and opportunities for women and girls in Nigeria.


Mrs. Kennedy-Ohanenye while harping on the need for collaboration to improve the welfare of women and girls emphasised the need for skill acquisition training to be accompanied with necessary tools to enable the women demonstrate the skills impacted from training.

The minister urged the participants at the stakeholders interactive programme to actively participate in the engagement, share experiences and contribute to the exchange of ideas to improve women, adding that training is a means to an end and not an end itself.

On their part, UN-women representative, Dr. Chukwumeka Onyimadu promised active collaboration with the ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development to advance the course of women in Nigeria.

Onyimadu said the engagement is apt and it is targeted at how to improve affairs of women and girls in the country.

She stated that there is importance in coming together to share ideas on how to tackle challenges bedeviling women.

Gender and Human Rights Programme lead at UNDP, Onyinye Ndubuisi, on her part also stated that knowledge-based collaboration would improve the situation of women in Nigeria.

Hassan Karfi of the Development Research and Project Centre, said they are committed to working with the Ministry of Women Affairs on areas of scholarship and women empowerment to enable them to demonstrate their skills.
