Introduces institutional framework for conducting promotion exams for civil servants
Federal Government through the Federal Civil Service Commission, (FCSC), has said that Computer Based Tests, (CBT), will be introduced this year for civil servants from the directorate level officers.
Chairman, FCSC, Professor Tunji Olaopa, made this known at a one day seminar on Institutional fFramework and Procedures for the Conduct of Directorates Level Promotion Examination Guaranteeing Integrity, Credibility, Transparency and Accountability in civil service, weekend in Abuja.
He said “We are working towards digitising the entire core operation of the federal civil service commission consequently, we are setting up a recruitment portal that will be accessible to all Nigerians especially the eligible candidates for recruitment into the civil service.
“Applicants will be able to get forms online, fill the forms, update it from time to time and post these forms whenever vacancies are declared.
the same CBT will be applied to federal officers starting with directorate level officers this year,.”
Professor Olaopa notes that an institutional framework for the conduct of credible and transparent promotion examination for civil servants is essential for an efficient civil service.
He said the aim of the seminar is to look standard reforms that will place Nigeria’s civil service commission at per with global expectations.
“The whole essence of the seminar to look into the reform plan for the federal civil service commission which we call the repositioning of the service for next level public administration.
“We are looking into the conduct, institutional framework and procedure for conducting promotion exams in the federal civil service and a lot of new changes are being made.
Director, Directorate of Examinations and Assessment, National Open University of Nigeria, (NOUN), Professor Olubenga Ojo, said that the use of CBT for the conduct of promotion exams from the directorate level is long overdue.
“We have told them the advantages of CBT and what they need to avail for the CBT to be able to function effectively to conduct exams everywhere in Nigeria,” he said.
Speaking on the importance of the CBT to keepiing with international standards, retire d federal permanent secretary, Olu Ilesanmi, Only Ilesanmi, said the move to kick-start reforms in the federal civil service is essential to chart a part for efficiency and to abreast on global best practices.
