The Federal Government has disclosed plans to deploy 530 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses to six states by the end of May 2024.

The initiative is part of the first phase of the President CNG Initiative (PCNGi).

This was revealed on the official X handle of the President’s media center, detailing the schedule of activities for the launch of the Presidential CNG Initiative.

According to the schedule, stakeholder events will be held on different dates between May 15 and 29 across the six geopolitical zones of the country.

Additionally, there will be events across the six geopolitical zones, culminating in the launch of the conversion incentive program in Abuja and the commissioning of the refueling station in Ilorin by the Kwara State Governor on May 29, 2024.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu launched the Presidential CNG Initiative in October 2023 to offer more affordable, safer, and environmentally friendly energy options. This initiative was prompted by the removal of the fuel subsidy on May 29, 2023, which led to over a 200% hike in the cost of petrol for vehicles.

Earlier, the Presidency had announced the launch of the CNG vehicles initiative before the one-year anniversary of President Tinubu’s administration.
