FIDA seeks legal backing for women in politics

International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Nigeria, Kogi State branch, is seeking a legal framework to back women’s participation in the country’s politics.

The chairperson, Lilian Okolo, disclosed this in Lokoja, at a town hall meeting organised to mark the International Women’s Day (IWD) with the theme ‘Gender Equality Today For A Sustainable Tomorrow’.

While charging women to support their kind in politics, she enjoined them to develop themselves, build their emotional intelligence and self-confidence to have a sustainable tomorrow.

She expressed FIDA’s displeasure over the rejection of the five gender bills by federal lawmakers, describing the action as an affront on Nigeria’s democracy, saying it came to women as a big shock.
