Financial times lists BHM among fastest growing companies in Africa

BLACKHOUSE Media (BHM), Lagos-based reputation management and marketing communications firm, has been listed among Africa’s fastest-growing companies in 2023. In the list of 100 companies released by Financial Times (FT) of London, BHM made its debut at number 87.

The list showed that BHM increased its revenue by 14.4 per cent over the past three years (2018–2021).

According to the publication, the ranking, now in its second year, showed that companies in sectors including fintech, renewable energy, healthcare, commodities and agriculture were managing to grow their businesses, while much of the world shut down.

FT said similar to the ranking’s inaugural year, the COVID-19 pandemic appeared to have accelerated the move online, with companies providing digital services in finance, payments, trade facilitation and healthcare all making headway.

Reacting to the development, the founder and CEO of BHM, Ayeni Adekunle said, “It’s a big deal for us, not only because we are the only communications services company on the list, but because we are in great company – right there with some of the biggest brands on the continent; many that we look up to and have had the privilege of working for. It’s humbling and inspiring. I can’t find the right words to express my gratitude and encouragement.”

Adekunle who posted on his social media handles continued, “We’ve been bootstrapping BHM since 2006, and the past few years have been rough – fast but tough growth, international expansion (UK, Ghana and Kenya already operating; US incorporated, to go live from August), and all the challenges that you can imagine. The plan is to deliver what will be the first truly international communications services company from Africa; a true global player with a commitment to the continent. And each passing day, each recognition, each project, each added country convinces me we are on track.

“But we are only able to build and grow because of your kindness and support.

We have enjoyed tremendous partnerships over the years that have allowed us do good work and dream big. I’ll forever be grateful for your continued belief and support; for everything you’ve done to get us here, and for all the doors and opportunities you continue to open for us,” he concluded.
