Finidi to take charge of Super Eagles against Ghana, Mali

Finidi George will take charge of the Super Eagles in their two international friendly games against Ghana and Mali.


This was confirmed on the Super Eagles’ X handle on Tuesday.

In a photo posted on the handle, Finidi was seen having a discussion with officials of the team.

The former Nigeria international was assistant to Jose Peseiro, who left his position as head coach, after guiding the team to a second placed finish at the AFCON 2023.


Following the departure of the Portuguese, Finidi has now taken over on the interim.

His first assignment will be the friendly games against Ghana and Mali which will come up on 22 March and 26 March respectively in Marrakech, Morocco.

Meanwhile, 11 players are already in the Eagles’ camp for the friendly games.


Alex Iwobi, Cyriel Dessers, Moses Simon, Stanley Nwabali, Bruno Onyemaechi, Semi Ajayi, Jamilu Collins, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Nathan Tella, Calvin Bassey and Umar Sadiq are the players who have arrived.

Victor Osimhen, Taiwo Awoniyi, Tyronne Ebuehi and Luton Town new invitee have been ruled out due to injury.
