Fire engulfs electronic shop in P’Harcourt, destroys goods worth millions of naira

Goods worth millions of naira were destroyed yesterday when fire engulfed a storey building used by LG Electronics as showroom and warehouse in Port Harcourt.

The Guardian learnt that the incident occurred at Rumuosi Junction, along the Rumuokoro-Choba axis of the East-West Road, in Obio/Akpor Local Council of Rivers State.


Eyewitnesses said the fire started at about 12:30 p.m., following a power surge, while efforts by residents to put out the blaze have not been successful.

One witnesses, who pleaded anonymity, said: “Despite the urgency of the situation, there is still no sign of firefighters or security agencies on the scene, leaving residents to fend for themselves.”

At about 1:00 p.m., the fire was still raging.

The incident left many people in shock, amid concerns about the safety of nearby buildings and absence of emergency services.
