Barely 24 hours after Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, inaugurated a committee for establishment of a university in Okun land, a former acting governor of the state, Chief Clarence Olafemi, has called for the institution to be sited in Mopa, Yagba federal constituency.

Speaking with newsmen in Lokoja, yesterday, Clarence commended Bello for decision to establish a higher institution in Okun land, saying inauguration of the implementation committee is indication that the governor is committed to the project.

He said Mopa is a better choice for the institution, stressing that the Government Technical College in the area could be converted into a university.

According to Clarence, “Government Technical College, Mopa, is situated in a very big and plain land and would be able to accommodate the university. Already, we have structures all over the place. Those structures would serve as take-off before the construction of new ones.

“Mopa has produced a governor, two deputy governors, a senator, House of Representatives member and a Speaker of the state Assembly. I think Mopa deserves an institution. If Governor Bello can site the institution in Mopa land, the people of Mopa will be very grateful.”

He explained that when he was acting governor of the state, despite the fact that he is from Mopa Muro, he sited Kogi State College of Education (Technical) in Kabba, rather than in his own local council.

He thanked the governor for considering Okun land in the choice for the institution, saying people of the area would rally round him and make sure he succeeds.

He also promised that the ruling All Progressives Congress in the state would win the forthcoming governorship election, as people from Okun land would vote massively for the party.
