Foundation advocates entrepreneurship for youth empowerment

As part of its drive to use entrepreneurship to build human capacity for nation-building, Niaja Youth Entrepreneurship Network (NYEN) is canvassing for the use of entrepreneurial skills as a tool to reduce poverty in the country.

Ezenwa Okoro, the Founder, NYEN, made the call at a one-day youth enterprise lab in Port Harcourt, where four participants were awarded between N100,000 and N200,000 grants.

Speaking at the programme, which is a master class on entrepreneurship and pitching for startups, Okoro said that the aim was to set up clusters of young Nigerians in different parts of the country to turn their talents into an enterprise.

He said: “The NYEN is a very strategic platform that I founded because I have experienced unemployment. And from my experiences, I have been able to articulate the problems that young people go through in Nigeria, especially as it regards unemployment.”

“And the number one strategy that I adopted is using entrepreneurship as a catalyst for youth empowerment. We are using entrepreneurship to inspire and motivate youths to become the best version of themselves and contribute meaningfully to nation-building.

“This is what NYEN is all about. We have activated chapters in Enugu, Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt.”
