Foundation celebrates African women in development

Donors for Africa Foundation has announced the successful conclusion of the African Women in Development (AWID) Features 2024 Awards by honouring exceptional women making significant contributions to development initiatives across Africa.

The AWID Awards celebrates African women’s outstanding achievements and remarkable impact in various sectors, including education, healthcare, entrepreneurship, environmental sustainability, research, sports, sciences and social justice.


The award feature also celebrates a diverse and esteemed audience of leaders, activists, policymakers, and stakeholders from across the continent.

According to the organisers, a distinguished panel of judges evaluated each nomination received from 1700 individuals from 34 African countries, based on criteria such as leadership, innovation, impact, and sustainability and country represented resulting in the selection of 60 finalists.

“We are honoured to recognise and celebrate the extraordinary accomplishments of African women who are driving positive change and making a lasting impact in their communities and beyond,” said Chief Operating Officer at Donors for Africa Foundation, Chidi Koldsweat.

“The AWID Awards is our intentional search to find sometimes unknown, unseen and unheard women making a difference. This is a testament to African women’s resilience, innovation, and leadership in advancing development goals and shaping a brighter future for all.”

Also speaking, Board Member, Donors for Africa Foundation and Founder, of Development Den, Miriam Elegbede, congratulated the finalists “saying: “Your dedication, passion, and unwavering commitment to driving positive change serve as a beacon of hope and inspiration for future generations. Together, we will continue to empower African women, amplify their voices, and build a more equitable and prosperous Africa for all.”
