Group rallies support for troops
The Defence Headquarters, yesterday, said four troops of Operation Hadarin Daji sustained injuries in a military expedition to flush out bandits in Kuriya village of Kaura Namoda Council of Zamfara State.
Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Major General General John Enenche, who made the disclosure in a statement in Abuja, also confirmed that no fewer than 50 bandits were killed in the encounter.
He said: “In continuation of aggressive clearance exercise to stamp out banditry in the North West zone, troops of Operation Hadarin Daji, yesterday, January 9, 2021, successfully neutralised several armed bandits in Kuriya village of Kaura Namoda LGA of Zamfara State.
“Following actionable intelligence, the gallant troops, with close air support by the air component, made contact with bandits at Kuriya village.
“In the course of the encounter, several bandits were killed in action, while four soldiers sustained injuries. Human Intelligence confirmed that no fewer than 50 armed bandits were killed in the encounter.”
He added that the troops also recovered 272 livestock from the hoodlums.”
Enenche continued: “In another development, troops deployed at Dunya village of Danmusa LGA of Katsina State, while on routine patrol, recovered 62 livestock from bandits, who fled into the bush on sighting troops.
“Currently, the gallant troops have continued to dominate the theatre of operation with aggressive patrols to deny criminals freedom of action.
“The military high command commended the gallant troops for the feats and encouraged them not to rest on their oars until normalcy is restored to all troubled zones of the country.”
IN a similar vein, a group, Citizens Action for Good Governance (CAGG), has pleaded with Nigerians to rally round security agencies in the fight against insurgency, stating that the current insecurity was a passing phase.
Its National Coordinator, Nazir Galandanchi, who made the call in Abuja, noted that the nation was at a time when citizens should be united against terrorism, adding that the war remained a collective responsibility.
According to Galadanchi, rather than vilifying the military and making comments capable of weakening the morale of troops, what is needed are soothing words of wisdom and exhortation.
He stated: “This is the best time for Nigerians of good intentions, especially among the downtrodden, to rally round and muster greater support for our gallant security forces in their determined efforts to subdue and eliminate crime and criminality. Appreciating the courage and bravery of the officers in battle fronts, fighting for the safety of harmless Nigerians, would encourage them to do more.”
The group charged the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, to make good his words by ending terrorism and banditry in the country this year.
While applauding the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, for entrenching community policing in the polity, CAGG urged the governors to expedite moves towards the success of the initiative in their respective states.
