Rivers House confirms commissioner-designate

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has vowed to probe the activities of the state government in the last eight years. Fubara spoke while swearing in Dagogo Iboroma, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, as the new Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.She directed the commissioner to quickly raise a panel of inquiry to investigate the activities of the state government in the last eight years.
 

  
The governor accused his opponents of deliberately sabotaging his administration while hoping that the issue in the state would be resolved amicably. He vowed to make tough decisions in moving forward no matter how hurtful they would seem.
  
Fubara also responded to comments by former Attorney General Zacchaeus Adangor (SAN), and his counterpart in the Ministry of Works Alabo George-Kelly. He accused the immediate Attorney General of sabotaging his administration by filing nolle prosequi against the interest of the state.
On the comment by George-Kelly, the governor maintained that he would have been promoted beyond Level 14 in the civil service before his retirement.
   
He said he was already on Level 13 as a Chief Account Officer before 2023. According to him, even if it were a mistake, by the special grace of God, he is here as a governor.

EARLIER, the pro-Fubara lawmakers in Rivers State House of Assembly screened and confirmed Dagogo Iboroma as commissioner-designate and member of the State Executive Council (SEC).
   
Iboroma, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), hails from Okrika Local Council of the state. Factional Speaker, Victor Oko-Jumbo, before reading the correspondence from Governor Siminlayi Fubara, commended the governor for providing an alternative venue for the lawmakers to conduct their legislative sitting until the hollowed chambers are rebuilt.

   
Oko-Jumbo recalled that members were shocked when in December 2023, unknown hoodlums razed the structures, describing the governor’s intervention as swift.
House Leader and member representing Ahoada West constituency, Sokari Goodboy Sokari, moved a motion for the auditorium of the administrative block of  Government House to be adopted as the hallowed chambers of the Rivers State House of Assembly and was seconded by the Deputy Speaker and member representing Opobo/Nkoro Constituency, Adolphus Timothy Orubienimigha.
   
In the transmitted correspondence, the governor requested that the nominee be screened and confirmed by the lawmakers. Commencing debate on the screening, House Leader, Sokari, urged colleagues to confirm the nominee based on his pedigree.
  
Consequently, the Speaker, at the end of the debate, adopted a voice vote, and all members present voted unanimously for the confirmation of the nominee.
Earlier, while fielding questions from lawmakers, the nominee, said his commitment was to the government and people of the state.
   
He stressed that everyone should be guided by the rule of law. Briefing members of the Rivers State House of Assembly Press Corps shortly after the screening, the House Leader, who said the House has fully resumed legislative sittings, also commended the governor for the provision of an alternative venue.
   
Recall that the Rivers State Government Order 001 of 2023 recently relocated the sitting of the State House of Assembly temporarily to the Auditorium of the Administrative section of Government House, Port Harcourt.The order was under the burning of the hallowed chambers of the Assembly in October 2023 by hoodlums.
