Fubara’s ally withdraws suit against 25 Rivers lawmakers

Rivers State governor Siminalayi Fubara

Former Speaker and resigned member of Ahoada II constituency of Rivers State House of Assembly, Edison Ehie, has withdrawn his contempt suit against the 25 of the 27 lawmakers, who defected from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to All Progressives Congress (APC) last year.

His action seemingly brings an end to the political unrest in the state. He had declared vacant the legislators’ seats in the face-off last month between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his political godfather/Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Previously, Ehie, in suit number PHC/3638/CS/2023, instituted at the State High Court in Port Harcourt, challenged the sittings and subsequent legislative activities of the 25 lawmakers.

However, in an intriguing turn of events, he resigned from the House when Fubara and Wike struck a peace agreement. But when the matter came up for hearing yesterday, lawyer to the claimant, Mac-Barango, informed the court of a notice of discontinuance submitted by his client.

He urged the court to honour the notice. When not challenged by defendant’s counsel, Ferdinand Orbih and Emeka Onyeka, the presiding judge, Justice F. A. Fiberesima, consequently, struck out the suit.
