Funeral sermons are for living, not dead, Catholic Archbishop declares

The Catholic Archbishop of Benin Archdioces, His Grace, Rev. Dr. Augustine Akubeze, at the weekend, said that funeral sermons are for the living, not the dead.

The Archbishop noted that words spoken in the hour of death should encourage the living to remain faithful to the Lord. Archbishop Akubeze stated this during a funeral mass at Saint Monica Catholic Church, Ibusa, Oshimili North Council of Delta State, to commiserate with the children of late Fidelis Nwanze, a Knight of Saint Mulumba (KSM).

Archbishop Akubeze, while expressing his feelings, pains and sorrows that the death of late Nwanze has brought to the entire family, commended the deceased son, Rev. John Nwanze, and members of his family for the love and care given to their late father till his death.
