Ganduje secures order to stop probe, recovery of public assets in Kano

Former Kano State governor and APC chairman Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

The Federal High Court in Kano has granted an ex-parte order suspending the activities of the Kano State Judicial Commission of Inquiry (JCI) established to investigate the mismanagement of public property and recovery of sold assets between 2015 and 2023.

Kano governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who inaugurated the commission of inquiry, said the intention was not to target individuals.

However, the court injunction to stop the executive order was secured by the former Kano governor and chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

The JCI was set up to investigate misappropriation of public property, political violence, and missing persons between 2015 and 2023 when Ganduje was governor.

The commissions, headed by Justices Zuwaira Yusuf and Faruk Lawan, have since commenced sittings.

The ex-parte motion granted in favor of the plaintiff listed the two Justices heading the commissions, the Kano state attorney general, the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, and the National Judicial Council (NJC) as respondents.

Granted by Justice S.A. Amobeda, the order restrained the heads of the JCI from exercising executive functions assigned to them by Yusuf until the court hears and determines the case.

The court has scheduled an expedited hearing for May 28 to further address the matter.
