GDF promotes quality education, peace on International Day of Education

In commemoration of this year’s International Day of Education, the Goke Dele Foundation (GDF) in collaboration with Quest Oil Group, has demonstrated its dedication to enhancing quality education in Nigeria, by visiting Wisdom Gate School and Lux Academy in Mowe, Ogun State.

The foundation distributed educational materials and raised awareness of the important role played by education in fostering lasting peace, to align with this year’s theme of “Learning for Lasting Peace.”

During the sensitization session, students were equipped with conflict management techniques, including avoidance, compromise, and collaboration, empowering them to resolve conflicts effectively.

Emphasis was also placed on the detrimental impact of hate speech, particularly on social media, highlighting its potential to sow seeds of ethnic disunity.

As advocates for education-driven societal transformation, the GDF aimed to inspire students to become peace agents and champions of ethnic inclusion.

The International Day of Education, observed annually on January 24, aligned this year with UNESCO’s focus on the role of education and teachers in countering hate speech.

During their visit, the GDF team championed this theme, addressing the damaging effects of hate speech on societal fabric.

GDF Programme Coordinator, Nicholas Uwuba emphasized the foundation’s commitment to quality education during the sensitization visit.

To him, “education is the cornerstone of lasting peace. By empowering students with knowledge and conflict resolution skills, we contribute to creating a world where diversity is celebrated, and peace prevails.”

The Principal of Wisdom Gate School, Enos Enokemagbe Williams, also expressed gratitude, acknowledging the foundation’s efforts in promoting education and peace.

“We are grateful to the Goke Dele Foundation for their commitment to promoting education and peace. This event has provided our students with valuable insights that will shape their perspectives and actions,” he stated.

The GDF visit underscores its commitment to ensuring Nigerian students have access to quality education and the tools to promote peace in their communities

By empowering students with knowledge and skills to counter hate speech, the foundation is actively contributing to a brighter future for Nigeria.
