German Consulate, LightOut Initiative partner on recycling campaign, climate action

Focusing on three of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the German Consulate in collaboration with LightOut Highschool have initiated a climate action and recycling campaign across secondary schools in Lagos State.

Centering their work on SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), the campaign is aimed at delivering its target output through youth engagements and educational concerts designed to inspire and sensitise Lagos youths on environmental sustainability.

The campaign will engage in advocacy projects to empower Lagos youths to participate in recycling and climate action initiatives.

It will include seminars and concerts aimed at also educating secondary school students on the importance of recycling, upcycling and the circular economy. By merging music, art and education, the initiative aims to create an eco-conscious generation that tackles plastic waste and leads in climate action.

A delegation from LightOut Highschool Initiative including its founder, Akinade Ibuoye, known popularly as Gaise Baba; Country Director, Susan Odurinde and Head of Programmes, Iyke Kalu, visited the German Consulate in Lagos for a signing ceremony, formalising the partnership.

At the meeting were the Deputy Consul General, Gerald Wolf, and the Programme Officer Economic, Political, Cultural and Press Section, Udochukwu Okeahialam.

Ibuoye, who spoke on the initiative, said: “LightOut Highschool Initiative extends its gratitude to the German Consulate for its support and partnership. Together, we look forward to a successful and impactful campaign that will inspire a generation of eco-conscious young leaders in Lagos.”
