Give priority support on fight against insecurity in Imo, CP urges community leaders

Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, has called for collaborative support from community leaders towards combating the prevalent security challenges in the state.


He insisted that until stakeholders especially community leaders priotize effort towards curbing security menace in the state, the desired peace and stability may not be achieved.

The Imo Police boss stated this when he led the Command’s management team to interface with chieftains of Ihiagwa, Nekede and Obinze, who are the host communities of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, FUTO, among other stakeholders.

CP Danjuma stated that the meeting became necessary following the incessant complaints received over the rate of kidnapping cases and crimes committed within the FUTO environs and in their respective communities.


He further disclosed that the meeting, which was held at the Ihiawa Civil Clan Center, yesterday, was summoned to enable him meet, interact and collective fashion posible ways with the stakeholders towards ending the security issues in the areas.

He urged the stakeholders especially the Traditional Rulers and community leaders to always scrutinise inhabitants of their communities, monitor every activity and movement within their areas as well as report suspecting ones to relevant authorities for appropriate action.

The CP finally reiterated the commitment of the command under his leadership to continually intensify efforts aimed at ensuring that men of the underworld are cleared from the state.

“We just had a security meeting with FUTO host communities, the Hausa Community, the Yoruba community as well as the university community on how we are going to solve the security challenges here.

“It was a fruitful discussion and by His special grace, we are going to flush out all the criminal elements in this community and their nefarious activities here tamed.” CP told newsmen shortly after the meeting.


Also speaking, some of the stakeholders at the meeting including Dr. George-Smart Obinna Unegbu, HRH Eze Lucky Okoro, Chairman Owerri West council of Traditional Rulers and Alhaji Ibrahim Sali, leader of the Hausa Community applauded the CP for the initiative and pledged to support efforts to enhance security of their areas.

“First of all, I want to say with all honesty that this meeting is unprecedented. The Commissioner of Police has taken a lead as a leader. He is pragmatic and proactive.

“We have seen his level of commitment so far. And we have collectively resolved to partner with him to address security issues in our area and Imo State in general.” Unegbu said.

The security meeting had in attendance representative of the Commander 34 Artillery Brigade, Obinze, Director of DSS, Imo State Command, Traditional Rulers of Eziobodo, Okolochi, Umuokpo, Nekede, Obinze, Eziokole communities, Sarki Hausa of the region and delegates from Ihiagwa, Umuchima, Obinze, Umuanunu, Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Hunters Association and other communities in Owerri West LGA.

Recall that the Command had last Monday arrested seven suspected kidnappers and discovered four decomposing corpses, suspected to be kidnapped victims at Okohia Forest which span across FUTO, Nekede, Ihiagwa, and Obinze communities.
