Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in Gombe State, Jamilu Gwamna, escaped death, at the weekend, as the ‘Kalare’ boys allegedly attacked his convoy, wounding two persons and destroying four vehicles.

Gwamna recently defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the PDP over what he called maladministration and “lack of level playground in the APC.”

The Guardian checks revealed that Gwamna’s convoy was attacked in the state capital when he arrived from his base in Kano for a courtesy call on the leaders of his new party, PDP.

Briefing newsmen on Saturday night, the governorship hopeful lamented the sorry state Gombe found itself.

He also pleaded with the governor to play politics without bitterness.

However, the state chairman of the PDP, Gen. Amnon Kwaskebe (rtd), had, on Saturday, explained that Gwamna was at the party secretariat to declare his intention to wrest power from the incumbent governor in 2023, describing the crowd that stormed the secretariat and environs as people interested in Gwamna’s personality and ability.

On why Gwamna defected to APC in 2019, Kwaskebe said PDP and its members pitied him for having spent so much without securing the desired ticket.

“In 2019, he contested the primaries and couldn’t win. All he spent was wasted. So, he and his supporters were not happy. They obviously felt cheated, and they went away. But now, he has openly apologised, and we have also openly forgiven him,” he told newsmen.

Meanwhile, Gwamna, at a media chat in his residence, said: “I went to the PDP to notify the executives and members of my intention to run for governorship in 2023. I am poised to build the party to wrest power from the failing APC.”
