Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has established the Kano Elders Council (KEC) to serve as an advisory body to his government.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Tofa, yesterday, the governor noted that “Kano has been blessed” by God with numerous elders and former leaders, who have reached the pinnacle of their careers and continue to be active and healthy.

The council comprises former governors, deputy governors, former lawmakers, retired justices and former top government officials, who are indigenous to the state.

Also, the council includes the leadership of the Ulamas, the business community, traditional rulers, former heads of security agencies from Kano and other distinguished elders to be identified and appointed by the government.

According to the governor, the elders possess a wealth of knowledge, wisdom, and experience, adding that his administration will deliberately seek to harness their versatile expertise.

He said the date for the inauguration of the council would be determined shortly.
