Gov. Wamakko urges Nigerians to put national interest above self

Aliyu WamakkoGov. Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State has urged Nigerians to put theĀ  interest of the country above personal interests.

Wamakko made the call while speaking with newsmen shortly after casting his vote in the governorship and state house of assembly elections in Wamakko, headquarters of Wamakko Local Government Area of the state.

“Politicians, the stakeholders and otherĀ  Nigerians, should have the fear of God always.

” The candidates, at all levels, should accept the results of the polls in good faith as God gives and takes leadership.”

He expressed happiness with the high turnout of voters and the peaceful conduct of eligible voters in the area.
The governor also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for making adequate arrangements to ensure the success of the polls.

He expressed optimism that the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) would emerge victorious in the elections.

Wamakko assured that the APC gubernatorial candidate in the state, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, would sustain the achievements of his 8-year old administration.

Meanwhile, the Sultan of Sokoto , Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, who cast his vote at the Sultan Palace polling station at around 2.00 p.m., also appealed to the candidates to accept the results in good faith.

The sultan also called on theĀ  losers to accept defeat and join hands with the winners to move Nigeria forward.

Abubakar also cautioned Nigerians against resorting to violence, saying that it would be detrimental to the peace and unity of Nigeria.

In a separate interview with journalists, the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Sen. Abdallah Wali,Ā  expressed confidence that he would win the election.

Wali, however, also expressed readiness to accept defeat, saying that he wasĀ  not afraid of losing at the polls.

“I am not afraid of losing. If I lose, I will accept it,Ā  but I want to lose on a plain and clear surface, in an election that is not rigged,” he said.

The PDP gubernatorial candidate said he would not contest the result of the election in court and would appeal to his supporters to accept its outcome in good faith.

Wali also commended INEC for proper conduct of the election in the state, saying the election had been free and fair and without any hitches so far.
