Governor Aiyedatiwa’s appointment sparks discontent in Akoko North-West APC

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akoko North West Local Government area of Ondo state has kicked against the appointment of Abdulganiyu Muhammed as the Special Adviser to the State Governor on Special Duty and strategies.

Mr. Muhammed was one of the eight special advisers sworn in by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa along with six commissioners and the head of service last Friday.

The leaders, in a petition sent to the national chairman of the APC, Abdullahi Ganduje, are seeking his intervention in the matter which they described as unjust.

In the petition dated March 2, 2024, which was sent through the Office of the Ondo State APC Chairman, Ade Adetimehin, the leaders expressed disappointment over the failure of the governor to notify local party executives.

They alleged that it was wrong for the governor to appoint Muhammed, who they alleged engaged in anti-party activities, particularly working for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the 2023 elections.

They questioned the legitimacy of Muhammed’s appointment, emphasising that his name did not appear in the initially published list of appointees.

The letter pleaded with Ganduje to summon Governor Ayedatiwa for a resolution, saying the appointment could lead to unrest and discontent within the party.

Copies of the letter have been sent to Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, and Tiamiyu Fatai Atare, the member of the House of Assembly representing Akoko North West Constituency 1.

Various stakeholders, including Akoko North West party leaders, Akoko North West Council of Obas, Akoko West Local Government Youth Forum, and others, have also been briefed.

The leaders expressed confidence in Ganduje’s commitment to party values and await a swift response to address the concerns raised in the letter.
