Graduates benefit from Nile University’s Employability Initiatives

Nile University of Nigeria has achieved an impressive graduate employment rate of 76%, according to its recently released inaugural Student Employability Report.

The report highlighted the university’s strategies for enhancing the employability of its students, including innovative partnerships with employers, state-of-the-art career services centre, and entrepreneurship initiatives, to name a few.

To reinforce its commitment to student success and prepare its graduates to thrive in the 21st-century world of work, Nile University has developed a network of partnerships with reputable national and international organizations, giving its graduates access to a wide range of career opportunities by connecting them with employers. These relationships provide students with networking opportunities and give employers access to a pool of talented and well-prepared graduates.

Nile University’s Dean of Student Services and Head of Employability, Dr. Modupe Fausat Aleshinloye, emphasized the value of championing student employability. According to her, beyond enabling students to gain meaningful employment and make good lives for themselves post-graduation, promoting employability is critical in driving the economic growth of a country through the production of a more productive and capable workforce.

“The mission of Nile University and Honoris United Universities (the owners of Nile University since 2020) is to prepare solution-oriented leaders that can have a transformative impact on Nigeria, Africa, and beyond. Employability is key to the attainment of this goal, which is why we have a Career Services Center, manned by a team of experienced professionals, that deploys intentional and goal-oriented employability initiatives designed to achieve positive outcomes for students.

“The Honoris 21st Century Skills certification which equips students with the most in-demand soft and digital skills that are essential for success in the 21st-century world of work is a good case in point. Additionally, through strategic partnerships with high-profile organizations spanning across the finance, professional services, education, entertainment, public, and health sectors we provide students with access to mentorship, internship, and job opportunities” Dr. Aleshinloye stated.

Nile University’s employability efforts extend beyond providing students with the skills to thrive in traditional 9-5 jobs. Cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset in its students is an important goal of the institution as reflected in its establishment of a Collective Lab (or Entrepreneurship and Innovation hub) – a dedicated space for students to meet, learn, connect, create, share, and inspire. According to Binta Gali Agbonika, the Collective Lab Manager, “The Collective Lab at Nile University fosters innovation and collaborative intelligence among students, which is invaluable in our world of today which is yearning for solution providers and job creators amidst the oversaturation of the global job market.”

Nile University’s employability success is reflective of the larger successes recorded across the Honoris United Universities network. In its employability report comprising employability data from its member institutions spanning 10 African countries – Honoris highlighted its effectiveness in providing its community of over 71,000 students an excellent return on investment through the provision of high-quality and impactful education that prepares them for success in the world of work.

In the foreword of the report, Dr. Johnathan Louw, the Group CEO of Honoris, said “50% of African employers state that job seekers’ skills do not match their needs. An estimated 62% of job seekers in Sub-Saharan Africa are being deemed under-educated, which is one of the reasons why the network was created. We champion new methods of delivery and technologies to develop a relevant academic model designed to address Africa’s key educational challenges in this fast-changing and globalized world while building partnerships with both public regulators and pan-African industries.”

The Senior Director of Employability of Honoris, Dr. Grace Nkansa, affirmed that all data contained in the report was delivered through objective survey gathering conducted by the research department at Honoris United Universities. She also expressed the network’s commitment to continuing its mission of Education for Impact across Africa in the years ahead.
