Group applauds Mbah over ban on sit at home

A civil society group, Enugu Good Governance Group (E-3G) has commended Enugu residents, workers, and traders for substantial compliance with the state government’s directive to go about their normal businesses on Mondays.

The group also praised Governor Peter Mbah for leading from the front in his efforts to restore productivity on Mondays.

E-3G further commended the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council (OYC), the Church, among others, for supporting the governor in putting an end to the observance of sit-at-home in the state.

A statement by the group’s National Coordinator, Odinaka Okechukwu, said: “We commend the private sector workers, traders, artisans and motorists for complying with the state government’s directive to resume full business activities on Mondays. It shows the resoluteness of our people to return to work, engender productivity, as well as project positive image and realities that drive investment inflows to the state.

“The truth is that the sit-at-home is not about Biafra or the leader of IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, as the separatist group has repeatedly denounced it.”

“If it is about Kanu, Umuahia, Abia Stat capital, where the IPOB leader hails from, won’t be going about their normal businesses with government offices in full operation on Mondays.

“Besides, residents in Anambra State, where the late Biafran Warlord, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, hails from, wouldn’t have been opening and running their normal schedules on Mondays.

“It is noteworthy that in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital, which is Simon Ekpa’s home state, residents open their markets and offices on Mondays. The same goes for Owerri. Why then should Enugu’s case be different?

“We, therefore, commend Mbah not only for taking the initiative to restore normalcy in the state, but also for leading the charge by visiting government offices and markets to encourage our people. That demonstrates the governor’s political will to restore business, commerce, industry and productivity in the state.”
