Group chides police for linking Fubara’s aide to DPO’s murder

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun

Ekpeye Ethnic Nationality of Rivers State has urged the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, to hands off the investigation that involves the Chief of Staff Government House, Edison Ehie, saying a political solution to the crisis is already in place and its implementation ongoing.

This came following the political impasse in the state, which has snowballed into the declaration of Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s Chief of Staff, Ehie, wanted by the Department of Force Intelligence, Intelligence Response Team, over an alleged connection with a case of conspiracy, arson, terrorism, attempted murder and murder of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ahoada Division, Rivers State, SP Bako Angbashim and five other police informants.

But the group during a press briefing yesterday, chided the police for linking the murder of the late DPO, SP Bako Angbashim, to an incident at Rivers State House of Assembly.

The Vice Chairman of River West Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former assembly member, Robinson Ewor, who spoke on behalf of the group, argued that the Police want to trivialise the death of the slain DPO.

He pointed out that the IGP and the state Police Commissioner know the real suspects, arguing that there was no correlation between the murder of the late Bako and the event that took place in the Rivers State Assembly on October 30, 2023.

He called on President Bola Tinubu to ensure the full implementation of the eight-point peace pact, including calling the police authority to order.

Also, he urged Fubara to set up a commission of inquiry towards addressing all remote and immediate causes to the Rivers State Assembly crisis.
