Group launches initiative to empower teachers

Teachers

To encourage teachers in the discharge of their duties, a non-governmental organisation, Grooming Endowment Trust (GET), has launched an initiative to empower them economically for their hard work, dedication, and innovation.

The group noted that the fight against out-of-school children could only yield desired results when educators are encouraged.

In a joint statement by Michael Adegoke and Orji Emmanuel, the organisation unveiled the grooming endowment teacher appreciation programme (GETAP), which is designed to support educators in underserved communities, who are doing great exploits.

The organisation noted that teachers in Nigeria face many challenges in the course of discharging their duties, and their well-being should not be left to the government alone.

The duo noted that GETAP would be supporting 12 deserving teachers, two each from the six geo-political zones in Nigeria, with the sum of N200,000 and other educational resources.

The organisation outlined specific criteria for professionals to qualify for the awards, including working in underserved and remote environments and teaching in a primary or secondary school.

Applicants must also have passion for the job and plan for continuity to assist more children and encourage others in the field, in addition to
five years of teaching experience.

“The overall objective of the grooming award is to appreciate teachers who are making impact, especially those who go the extra mile. The initiative is to search for teachers who are in underserved communities, but exhibiting laudable ideas,” the group stated.
