Group seeks synergy in FCT departments to end land grabbing

The Housing Development Advocacy Network (HDAN) has advocated synergy among Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) departments as means to end land grabbing activities in Abuja.

HDAN Executive Director, Festus Adebayo, also emphasised the need for departments to collaborate more effectively to tackle the growing problem, which is unsettling the residents and raising fears among prospective homeowners. He highlighted that the lack of coordination among departments has contributed to the rise in land grabbing in the FCT.

Adebayo decried the negative impact of land grabbing on investments in the sector, urging the FCDA and other departments to work together towards restoring order in the sector.

“We have received numerous reports of land grabbers operations in the FCT. These individuals exploit the gaps within various agencies to carry out their criminal activities.

“It is crucial for the departments to collaborate, especially now that there is a committed minister working to elevate FCT,” Adebayo said.

The organisation stated that the lack of coordination among departments responsible for land allocation, urban and regional planning, land data management, and development control has led to the proliferation of land grabbing activities.

He called for cooperation among these departments to combat the surge in land grabbing. Adebayo emphasised that increased synergy among them would yield positive results in the long-term for the real estate sector.
